Ideal for those who want to explore this legendary mountain from the shortest and most demanding route, discover the Afro-Alpine flora and conquer a relatively accessible 5000.

Where you will go Roof of Africa, this mighty volcano, which has been inactive for millennia, constitutes a very important ecosystem, precious for the richness of fresh water, for the variety of local flora and fauna and for the fertility of its slopes. Kilimanjaro has three well-defined peaks and some craters and volcanic cones. The highest is Kibo, on the western edge, and its summit is Uhuru Peak (5895 m). To the east is Mawenzi Peak (5149 m) and on the western side is the oldest peak, Shira, with its 3962 m.

Day 1.Moshi – Marangu

Our Kilimanjaro trekking starts from the Marangu gate (1828 m), from which we will leave after the formalities for about 4 hours of walking to the Mandara Hut refuge (2700 m). The entire stretch is covered by the spectacular equatorial forest, rich in humidity, with tall trees, medium-height trees, ferns and orchids of rare beauty

Day 2. Mandara – Horombo

Starting from 2700 m the forest thins out and gives way to junipers, olive trees and heather (also of considerable height). The path will cross the moorland (moorland, which covers the mountain up to 4000 m), dominated by flowers and two plants that will surely attract your attention the Dendrosenecio Kilimanjari and the Lobelia deckenii, to reach the Horombo Hut (3720 m). The ascent will last approximately 5 to 7 hours.

Day 3. Horombo (3720 m)

We are now above the dense blanket of clouds that perpetually covers the mountain, Kilimanjaro trekking now includes a stop for acclimatization to altitude, rest and exploration of some landscapes that would not otherwise be reached: the Zebra Rocks, a cliff from the curious white and black color that is located at the beginning of the path towards the Mawenzi (very demanding summit and therefore reserved exclusively for expert mountaineers) and the Sella dei Venti (2 hours to get there), located between the Kibo and the Mawenzi, from the lunar landscape dominated by large boulders resting on lava gravel and with a splendid view of the two peaks. Overnight at Horonbo Hut.

Day 4. Horombo – Kibo

We are definitively in the mountain desert 6 or 7 hours of walking uphill through a large stony ground to reach Kibo Hut (4694 m). The difficulty is determined only by the now scarce amount of oxygen.

Day 5. Kibo – Uhuru Peack – Horombo

A long day of walking will begin at 1 am (the lava stone is easier to walk when it is frozen) to reach Steela point (5735 m) at 7 in time for the sunrise on the Mawenzi. Now the final ascent will take you in 2 hours (round trip) of slow zig zag to Uhuru Peak (5896 m), you have reached the roof of Africa! From the summit you can admire the impressive walls of the great northern and southern glaciers and the interior of the crater. Descent (much easier than the ascent) to the Horombo Hut (to avoid staying at high altitude for a long time).

Day 6. Horombo– Moshi

Kilimanjaro trekking is at its conclusion, relaxing descent in 6-7 hours to reach the gate.
